The exercises compiled here will perhaps be used predominantly in cases of a gnathological conspicuousness. This especially concerns the dental prosthetics besides the orthodontics but also the cases of mandibular dysfunctions respectively those with joint involvement. They may be mnanifested in a syndrome complex with general nuromuscular disorders (Hypertonicity), within the rheumatoid complex or in rehabilitation after fractures in the joint region or the manibular bone segment. This particular problem is also presented in a summarized form in the chapter JAW EXERCISES. |
Contents: |
The contents of these exercises differing but will mainly aim at generating a physiological mobility, motility and a proper tonicity. Of prime importance is a correct positioning in the pause (resting) and stand-by position as well as the correct procedure of the mouth opening and closing movement. |

Procedure: |
The course of the training is exercise dependant - - Previous exercises will have to be prescribed case dependent; to these may be counted simultaneous measures like rigid or removable splinting. |
-Starting position: In most cases it would be a priority assignment to create this (exercises see in the listing and chapter end). |
- Step-by-step-description: -1 Generally, as mentioned above, a correctly positioned and unstressed posture of all components will have to be generated – Spine and neck, perioral and intraoral musculature (cheek, oral diaphragm, pharyngs). -2 The functional movements conceptually: Swallowing, mastication, speech, facial expressions. -3 Supporting rehabilitation measures by means of equipments and manipulation with physiotherapy respectively stretching or movement guiding. |
-Timing: The general TIMING during the course of rehabilitation will result from the said step procedure; about the special exercise training see the respective exercise description. |

Characteristics: |

See respective exercise description. |
Remarks: |
The physiology of the mandible movements is the central issue of the cervicocranial musculature and, therefore, should generally be included into the clinical recording.. |
Discussion: |
Detailed discussion of the applications see in the respective exercise chapter. |

List of exercises |

Due to the mentioned key role of the mandible movements here mostly every exercise might be listed up; the subsequent catalogue is showing only the most important ones.) |
