THREE RING EXERCISE

Myofunktional Exercise  Collect ion

Application:

to enlarge click on the picture

This exercise is positioned mostly at the end of the series beginning with the one-ring-exercise (,1-2-3'-EXERCISE) and TWO RING EXERCISE and corresponding to the stage of the training of the relevant tongue third – one ring for the first, adding the second for the (first and) second third and the third for the (first, second and) third tongue third. (See also chapter ELASTIC EXERCISES).In an aimed therapy also a single elastic may selectively be positioned for the respective tongue third.

Contents:

The exercises represent under a. a hold exercise and under b. a reflex kinetic (swallow) exercise with sensory orientation aid (feed-back).

Materials:

Rubber ringlet (“elastic”).

Procedure:

- Previous exercises:

Here mostly the TWO-RING-EXERCISE will be positioned in front.

-Starting position: Not specific.

- Step-by-step-Description:

-1 The mouth opens wide, the tongue looks out a bit.

By hand mirror control at first the therapist, later on the patient himself puts on the ring. The ring is positioned in each case precisely on the middle line of the tongue third beginning at the tip of the tongue.

-2 a In the mode of a hold exercise, now, the tongue tip with the ring on is placed on the POINT like in the exercise RING LOCKER and the back of the tongue lifted up dorsal wards  until the patient feels the contact of all three rings, one after the other, on the palate. This position will be held counting up.

-2 b In the kinetic mode the tongue tip is located as above, the molars rested upon each other and consequently swallowed.

-3 b Open the mouth, position control with the hand mirror; the rings should not have been shifted.

- Timing:

Under a there has built up a sequence with holding and counting increasingly up to thirty or on the watch for a half, one ore several minutes. Depending on the length of the sequence several of these may be coupled.

Under b one round makes one sequence. Up to five sequences may follow one another.

Characteristics:

Sensory, organ stereognosis, orientation. gross motor skill

a.        static

b.       . function kinetic reflex control, stretching, manipulation.

Remarks:

See below

Discussion:

Concerning mode b. also note remarks in chapter ELASTIC EXERCISES about functionality.  Alternatives to the materials used are also discussed there.

Instructions:

The tongue tip knows where its comfortable seat is.

Now the whole tongue should get used to lean its rear restfully against the back of its seat, the palate.

To make it feel when it contacts the palate she gets markers put on. This is done with the elastics just like we have done it in the training session.

At the front the first ring sits on its tip,

Then on the back precisely in the middle we put the second one,

and far back the third.

When the tongue now leans against its seat back, the palate,

at first with its tip, then with its middle and then with the rear The surface of the palate will each time notice the contact of every single ring one after the other, the first, the second and the last.

The tongue keeps this position and we start counting out – as long as we have agreed.
