TWO RING EXERCISE

The One-Ring-Exercise RING LOCKER, the here discussed and the THREE-RING-EXERCISE          belong to the ELASTIC EXERCISES (see the respective chapters).  They are used with a disorientated tongue or a low posture to gain an upwards orientation. In these cases the training runs in respect to the partition of the tongue in three thirds in three phases. The exercise discussed here aims at the middle tongue third. As the exercises for the two other thirds this one, too, may be installed either in a static or in a kinetic mode to, either to practice rather the hold force and orientation or to put the accent mobility or the swallow reflex. As different as the modi will be the moment of their entry.

Contents:

a.        In its static mode this exercise is a hold and stretch training (with the specific timing also for habituation),

b.       in the kinetic mode it is a partial reflex training.

Both modi have in common the manipulated feed-back control by strange-body stimulation.

Materials:

Elastic (rubber ringlet), hand mirror.

Procedure:

- Previous exercises: Generally the respective exercises for the first third of the tongue are completed; a direct pre-exercise is not afforded, a possibility would be the practicing with one ring.

-Starting position: Unspecific

- Step-by-step-description:

-1 The mouth opens wide the tongue looks out just a bit. To start with, under hand mirror control initially by the therapist, later on by the patient himself the positioning of the ring is carried out. On each tongue third the ring is positioned in the very middle beginning at the tongue tip.

-2 Next the tip sets its ring on to the POINT; the next step is differentiating the two modi:

-3a  static: The patient concentrates on feeling the pressure of both rings (one after the other!) and holds the position under counting up.

-3b kinetic: Similar to the simple ,1-2-3'-EXERCISE now the molars softly occluded and swallow.

-Timing:

In a. one sequence is completed by holding and counting increasingly up to thirty or on the watch for a half or one up to several minutes. Depending on the extent of one sequence several may be coupled together.

In b. one run makes one sequence. Up to five sequences may follow each other.

Characteristics:

Sensory, organ stereognosis, orientation, gross motor skills, stretching, manipulation.

a.        Static, habituation.

b.       Function kinetic reflex control.

Discussion:

The exercise with one, two or three elastics is, in principal, matching. As nomenclature indicates in the follow-up is contained a specific development; the exercises come to functioning successively in the different training stages. The modi, however, entail the exercises being planned in matter-of-factly two times under different object aspects (se above), in the a-mode more in the start phase of the training of the special tongue segment for orientation, towards the end for the respective third in long sequences (over hours) for a habituation of the position gained, in the b-mode rather to the end of the total therapy for a reflex training. Instructions:

The tongue knows already where it should sit down with its tip. It can show that in taking one elastic up and setting it on the POINT.

 

Now, the seat for the tongue has a very comfortable seat back where the tongue may lean its back against.

The tongue, now, gets its second elastic on its back, so as we have practiced it. and on we go, as trained, either:

Both rings are put on and the tongue back presses them against the palate so that it can clearly be felt, best one after the other

The position is kept as we have come about.

Or:

Both rings are put on and an we go as with the ,1-2-3’-EXERCISE:

1 = tongue tip to the POINT

2 = molar teeth upon each other

3= Swallow.

As often as prescribed.
