EASY NODDING

Myofunktional Exercise  Collection

Application:

click picture to enlarge

This is presumably an exercise for adults who have developed the disorder to a complex syndrome bunch with special involvement of the vertebral joints and muscles in the ventral and dorsal collum region. It is the intention to loosen the syndrome-typical spasms in this area. The neglecting will lead to a simultaneous tenseness in the musculature of the neighbouring regions, in the Stomatognathic and Orofacial system, the target region of our therapy.

Contents:

By the faintly hinted performing of the muscle action the system is compelled to move the involved musculature on a fine-motoric level respectively to keep it at an active standby tone (see TONUSDEFINITION). This, per se, is preventing a hypertone, moreover secondary symptoms are respected as the therapy-conductive, joints protecting movement.

Materials:

Not required

Procedure:

- Previous exercises: Not obligatory, BASIC-POSITION or SITTING-POSITION optional.

-Starting position: Valuable the above mentioned, the exercise is, however, approachable from any position and recommended (standing, walking, car-driving, reading, at the desk…).

- Step-by-step-description:

-1The nodding movement does not need further explanation, the step-by-step is trivial:

Forward – backward – forward - …..

To illustrate the action desired to the patient:

A friend and colleague of mine who described this exercise to me gives the following description to his patients.

Sitting in the hotel lounge with your marriage partner you notice your flirtation entering the hall. As you do not know whether your eye winking will be noticed you imperceptibly nod your head as a sign that you have taken notice or the entering (not suitable for children).

- Balanced body posture, eyes straight forward, chin in, lips on ,M’, tongue tip on ,L’ and nod almost imperceptible in a slight flow of movement without jerking ten, twenty times.

-Timing: This is a typical exercise to be integrated into the daily routine. The patient should repeat it as frequently as possible.

Suggestion: At least ten to thirty nods every 2. – 3. hours. The muscle action is rather carried out in the slow-motion mode.

Characteristics:

Eutonization, deep sensibility, kinetic-finemotoric, kinaesthesia.

Remarks:

With a CSS (cervical spine syndrome) every orthopaedic fact of importance should be considered. The similar exercise WIDE NODDING with extreme dorsal and ventral movements should alternatively only be carried out from the upright head position to the front, the backwards movement completely cancelled. Recommended should be the as well described head rotating which rather will have to be a semicircle: Left ear towards left shoulder. The face, now, being guided along the extreme movement border in the front shifting the right ear towards the right shoulder.

Discussion:

By this typical Myofunctional Exercise the systems experiences the ability to regulate itself. Concentration is most important. The mental targeting on the “imperceptible” pre-regulates the muscular working-tone of the stand-by posture. It is the mechanism occurring when the patient consciously pre-concentrates on an action to be conducted. The carry-out imagined results in a pre-toning of the target muscle, the concentration on the correct performing teaches the muscle (-system) to feel itself.

The movement may be started from every position possible. The integration into the daily rhythm mentioned in the paragraph “Timing” is quite important for most Myofunctional Exercises especially for adults. On this condition exercises may be accomplished without greater want in respect to psyche or time and with the necessary constancy and seriousness.

Instructions:

It is up to the head nodding muscles to be trained!

For that we imagine the following situation:

You are standing together with some friends you want to present a surprise. It is kept ready by some one still hidden till you give him a discreet signal. This will be the prearranged ever so slight nodding of the head to tell him that he may come on. This slight nodding will be practiced now. First once with a mirror for control. Now repeated, very slightly and fairly imperceptibly. And count out, 10 times, pause, 10 times again.

This exercise should be repeated several times a day.
