WORDEXERCISE 2.TONGUE-1/3

Myofunktional Exercise  Collection

Application:

We have got three different WORDEXERCISES  which are applied for functional tongue problems. They are outlined in a way to be adapted in an INCREASE-ARRANGEMENT after the  UNIT-CONSTRUCTION-SYSTEM – the here discussed presumably for the medial tongue region. The exercise is the follow-up or supplement exercise after the WORDEXERCISES  - 1. TONGUE-THIRD (see there).

Hereby we do not back up the improvement of single muscle tracks but, as with the other WORDEXERCISES , gain control about subtle reflex chains.

Contents:

This exercise schools the functionkinetic reflex of the second tongue third for the formation of sounds through an acoustic feed-back generally via controlling by the therapist; the use of acoustic storage media is valuable.

Materials:

Graph with training sentences. Tape recordings may be used as a control.

First tongue third

Second tongue third

TINGLING TRUMPET TONES TOPPLE A TOWER.

DOZENS OF DAFFODILS DUMPED IN THE DOWNFALL.

LONELY LITTLE LAMBS LIFT LIMB LEGS

MITCH WILL CATCH THE WITCH TROUGH THE HATCH.

STITCH A PATCH ON THE CLUTCHBAG.

OUCH! DON’T TOUCH THE POUCH!

Procedure:

- Previous exercises: It is constructive to perform the WORDEXERCISES  - 1. TONGUE-THIRD previously.

-Starting position: The ,L-M’-POSITION is useful.

- Step-by-step-description:

-1 The therapist pronounces each line first and in a well articulated way. The patient should be explicitly admonished to realize the contact of the second tongue third with the palate (centre). The patient will have to, consciously, watch the feeling of this contact when speaking.

-2 The therapist points  a finger or the tip of a spatula to the site of the palate the tongue is going to touch.

-3 Line one. The words are pronounced slowly and clearly; with every training step the next row is added.

-4 Second line.

-5 Third line.

-6 Finally all here line are practiced in one turn:

-7 Next it is advisable to form the words of the WORDEXERCISES  - 1. TONGUE-THIRD before continuing with the here discussed ones.

-Timing: After starting the training with the exercise parts up to step 5 adding step 6 (respectively 7) will form one complete sequence. Up to ten sequences may be put together for one series. Alternatively the work-out will be executed in the mode of the IINCREASE-ARRANGEMENT:

First sequence WORDEXERCISE  - 1

Second sequence WORDEXERCISE  - 2, continuously changing to form a ten-series.

Characteristics:

Feed-back, kinesthetics, functionkinetic reflex.

Remarks:

Only the slow and pronounced articulation will lead to the desired coordination.

Discussion:

See “Discussion” in the chapter WORDEXERCISES  - 1. TONGUE-THIRD. The word exercises should be accompanied by the Myofunctional exercises for the respective third ( see TONGUE EXERCISE).

Instructions:

The tongue is learning to pronounce the words right, here for its font and middle part, the 1. and 2. third. Here the sound ,TCH’ [´?] is being formed. If you try it some how else it sounds incorrect and you will not be able to avoid to spray droplets when speaking. The following words should be spoken as if reading them clearly to somebody. Watch how the two thirds of the tongue touch the palate:

MITCH WILL CATCH THE WITCH TROUGH THE HATCH.

STITCH A PATCH ON THE CLUTCHBAG.

OUCH! DON’T TOUCH THE POUCH!

Speak slowly and clearly and feel attentively!

Repeat ten times at least.
