,L-M'-POSITION

Myofunktional Exercise  Collection

Application:

to enlarge click picture

This exercise is designed to insure the regular habitual position for lips and tongue-tip in the target field with the variety of neuromuscular impairments (see discussion”). The phrase “L-M-Position” imposes this customary position with a catch-word for an unconscious impression forming ( see PLATELET-HOLDER, POINTPOSTURE, cf. chapter ,L’-POSITION , M’-POSITION).

Contents:

Habitualization and self-regulation of the standby-position of the Orofacial (and Stomatognathic) System.

Materials:

Not required, optionally in the initial phase Pictograph (Logo, MEMO).

Procedure:

- Previous exercises: Exercises for an LIP-CLOSURE and TONGUE-TIP-ORIENTATION(see there)

-Starting position: SITTING-POSITION

- Step-by-step-Description:

- Step-by-step-description:

-1 Taking up the  ,L’-POSITION, tongue-tip at the “spot” i.e. the central  resting-point , the “inner ,L’ “

-2 Adding the “outer” aspect, the ,M'-POSITION. The patient may carry out that positioning several times before continuing this posture.

-Timing: As described, a special chronological prescription may not be afforded. The patient will take up the position frequently over the day and probably heck it, initially, perhaps, through MEMOS.

For the starting phase:

The training should be carried out with counting to twenty while maintaining the retral-orientation of the Mandibula position. This followed by relaxation and repetition (about five times alternating). This instruction is, at the beginning, applicable equally for the home training.

Characteristics:

Orientation, Self-control, Motivation, Habitualization, Myobalance, Static, Fine-motoric, Sensitivity.

Remarks:

As with every partial position of the BASIC-POSITION it should be taken care of a precise performing.

Discussion:

The ,L-M'-POSITION will become the catchword for the   PAUSE-POSITION throughout the whole system. “outside ,M’ , inside ,L’ “ ( see also  ,L'-POSITION,M'-POSITION ).

The frequent repetition of the catch-word and its meaning by the therapist will let the patient internalize the posture till the acquired becomes promptly present with the catch-word or logo.  Furthermore the exercise is recommended for the patient as an immediate countermeasure when catching himself at dysfunctions as Parafunctioning, Hypermotility, Hypertone etc. As preparation and intermediate step in passing on to the    ,L-M'-POSITION focused loosening-up exercises are recommendable as the ,TAP-TAP', the ,E'-EXERCISE, BABBLE, and the ,P-P-P' .

Instructions:

Now we may do two exercises in one at the same time.

Tongue and lips will get used to their permanent normal posture. For the training we will exercise each posture separately:

For ‘inside’, the tongue, it is the ,L’-POSITION and for ‘outside’, the lips, the ,M’-POSITION. Additionally for the entire body the SITTING-POSITION. All muscles are slightly tensed, never flabby but, as well, never taut.

On ‘L’ the tongue-tip sits on the SPOT it’s back leaning against the palate.

On ‘M’ the lips are softly on top of one another. No muscle all around the mouth is tensed up.

Several times a day it will be checked if the correct ,L-M'-POSITION is running. It really has to become so much a habit that you will never find another wrong position when checking.
