- Step-by-step-Description: |
|
-1 In the primary stage liquid is filled into the DIMPLE of the patient followed by the swallow with a trained method (for example a modified ,1-2-3’-EXERCISE (see there). In a more advanced stage it may be preceded in the way of the STRAW SUCKING Exercise. The objective is: The patient takes up a small gulp of liquid (as well with a drinking vessel) -2 The DIMPLE is formed, -3 The tongue tip holds the POINT, -4 TOUCH-THE-BUTTON (see there) und swallow. Here the modified ,1-2-3’-EXERCISE may be put in as well, then, step ,-1’ requesting tongue-tip with dimple to the SPOT, then continuing as with the modified ,1-2-3’-EXERCISE (see there). -Timing: One muscle action being taken as one sequence 5 to 15 may, gradually added, be assembled to a series. |

Remarks: |
For the preciseness of the performing it is important to check the formation of the dimple; as nonphysiologic may be seen the method “to tank up” as if liquid is poured from one bottle into another. |
Discussion: |
It will depend upon the conception of the therapist how the strategy is structured in the actual therapy phase. Several possibilities are offered. In the literature we frequently find the opinion represented that the swallowing of solid foodstuff should be trained before the work-out of the LIQUID SWALLOW. This is not necessarily conclusive. The following ways of proceeding in the overall training plan are at choice:
n Initiation of training the swallow with solid food followed by practice till the initiation of the partial reflex of the dimple-forming, the, commencing with the LIQUID SWALLOW. n Training till the initiation of the partial reflex of the dimple-forming, then, commencing with the working out of swallowing solid food-stuff, followed by practicing the LIQUID SWALLOW. n initiation of training the swallow with solid food followed by practice till the initiation of the partial reflex of the dimple-forming, the, commencing with the LIQUID SWALLOW, as, thus, a certain continuity of handling liquid materials is maintained. This succession may, the, may be added to built up a series leading to an INCREASE-ARRANGEMENT. In the follow the step of swallowing solid foodstuff. The cited ,1-2-3’-EXERCISE is adaptable to the particular training level by the respective modifications described there. |
Instructions:
