BAGGY TONGUE |
Myofunktional Exercise Collection |
Application: |
|
This exercise is chiefly applied for a muscle loosening between strenuous tongue work-outs. It, therefore, is equally useful for the improvement of the motility and for loosening spasms and, as well, with hypertonia as is to be found in any case of tongue pressing. (Anatomy: Area II, Page 18). |

Loosening-up exercise for the tongue body; play exercise. |
|
Materials: |
|
Not required. |
|
Procedure: |
|
- Previous exercises: No prescription; the preceding exercise will have been so demanding that tenseness or painfulness are resulting which will have to be loosened through the following work-out. |
|
-Starting position: The mouth is opened slightly - ,DRAWER-IN’ ! |
|
- Step-by-step-description: -1 The tongue is slobbering or babbling (the same way as when imitating a fast swinging bell) as fast as possible up and down between the upper and lower lip. Simultaneously a chime may be stroked up which is interrupted by the ‘slobber’-frequency. As further information we might explain:” As if you are lapping up something, only much faster; while the stream of air in this case does not go inward but out.” |
-Timing: Generally this exercise may be prescribed as an interlude. In the special timing slobbering should be carried on as long as needed for muscle loosening (shake-out). |
Characteristics: |
Kinetic, Motility, Relaxation, Play-exercise. |
Remarks: |
It should well be minded the tongue being held loosely. |
Discussion: |
The Hyoid bone is fixed in this exercise, the floor of the mouth tensed. This fact may be utilized in the case that the tonicity of the hypoglossal musculature shall especially be strengthened. |
Instructions: |
After the tongue had to exert itself with practicing it, now, will get the opportunity to relax what will work best this way: You open your mouth slightly and pretend to lap something up like a cat, but: Now you will not suck in the air but let it stream out the breath faintly lapping faster and faster. When you additionally start singing a sound while the tongue is slobbering up and down between upper an lower lip it will rather sound like a little bell chiming. At the same time the tongue can become wonderfully relaxed. |
