This exercise will be positioned in a similar place of the overall therapy course as the as the CONTINUOUS SWALLOW. It may be considered if BLANK SWALLOW is positioned before or after it.
- Previous exercises: In the course of correcting the swallow reflex every detail step of this reflex chain should have been rehearsed correctly ( in connection see especially the exercises for TONGUE-TIP-ORIENTATION or as well SWALLOW-MECHANISM and SWALLOW REFLEX EXERCISES). As a direct pre-exercise for difficult cases the exercise may LICK may precede. In the further course this, then, is practiced without the trigger substance but in the same sequence ( see ‘Discussion’). |
-Starting position: Take up a position such as BASIC-POSITION. |
- Step-by-step-description: -1 The tongue tip goes to the POINT. -2 Now (et cetera, single step description as in CONTINUOUS SWALLOW). -Timing: (Ditto) |

Discussion: |
The exercise aims at the patient collecting the saliva the same way as chewing matter or liquids in the DIMPLE and, next, swallowing. As may patients have an aversion against “swallowing the own saliva” we take this procedure as detours. The procedure means a raised concentration on the correct follow-up of steps in swallowing before the triggering act. |
