TONGUE-TIP-ORIENTATION

Myofunktional Exercise  Collect ion

Application:

No illustration

This chapter gives a general description of a collective group of exercises and details which are sharing the here described facts. This is to make it easier for  the reader to find out the disorder specific exercise groups.

The tongue tip) as to this term see paragraph “Discussion”) has a control function in interaction with the incisal papilla with which it is connected in a feed-back circuit (see TOUCH-THE-BUTTON). In a maladjusted tongue posture with Statics or Functioning mostly this feed-back circuit is out of order or completely disrupted, the sensitivity of the mucosa of the tongue and, or palate (Papilla Incisiva) deficient. This deficit may be the cause of the disorder but it also may have come into existence as an adaptation to the impaired muscle function pattern. After a long-lasting disorder the control centre has blanked out the continuously incoming alarm signals of the effector organ. Therefore the therapy will have to start with training up Sensitivity and to continue with the Orientation of the target organ (see basic rules, course of action concept). The work-out target is the POINTPOSTURE.

Contents:

Exercises for the Physiologic positioning of the first tongue third.

According to the here after described therapy course the contents of the exercises to be recommended will have to serve the degree of the physiological operativeness of the tactile kinaesthesia. The stimulus perception being heavily decreased would mean to start over from the very beginning. Within the course of therapy the exercises will be arranged in a way (see also below) that their contents is primarily working out the tactile feeling of tongue tip and incisal papilla by hetero manipulation and in the follow the tactile aesthetic feeling-out whereby gustatory aid may be administered.  At this state already orientation guides may be slipped in which, then, will be amplified in the following course.

Would the disorder moreover be connected with a muscular deficit the muscle tone will have to be trained up before aimed measures for the tongue orientation to the POINT can get effective.

These will, then be amplified in a first step by manipulation with foreign body irritation /rubber ringlet, elastic ore the like) and supported by MEMOS. Here again may be slipped in contents for a habituation which lastly are becoming the main contents of the exercises in the end phase of the partial complex TONGUE TIP ORIENTATION.

Materials:

Presumably exercise specific; spatula (“pointer”), flavouring, ice, elastic, rice grain

Procedure:

- Previous exercises: Start motivation with the ZUNGENSTORY, motivation for treatment through the description  DRIVING SEAT, myobalancing the surroundings by studying the physiological body posture with

SITTING-POSITIONRESTPOSITION,  ,DRAWER-IN’-EXERCISE , BASIC-POSITION.

-Starting position: is the BASIC-POSITION rehearsed in the pre-exercise.

- Step-by-step-description:

(In the follow a possible arrangement of exercises in the course of training is listed up – not imperatively every exercise in not imperatively this succession will have to be applied.

1 “Learn-to-find” the POINT by the exercise PROVE-THE-POINT.

2 “Learn-to-feel” the POINT by the exercise POINTEXERCISE.

3  Orientation towards the palate by the “MNEMONICTONGUE-PLOP as an aid to enlarge the motion frame.

4   First upwards hold-exercise by again aMNEMONIC“:FROZEN PLOP.

5  Stretching exercise for the tongue tissues wit the pre-exercise SUCK AND PULL followed by

6  Muscle strengthening with exercise HOLD-AND-PULL.

7  Motivation and monitoring through the  KEEP-THE-POINT.

8  Habituation (see HABITUATION EXERCISES): ,L’-POSITION, ,L-M’- POSITIONRESTPOSITION.

9  Strengthening of the elevator muscles with SPATULA PRESSING.

10 Function and reflex exercises for the start as: WORDEXERCISES 1. THIRD.

11 Fine motor skill training and forming the S-Canal (ditch –shaped depression running on the tongue surface  in the median line through which the delivery air for creating the “S”-sounds flows) with the exercise WHISTLING KETTLE.

12 The initial phase of the swallow process is practiced by the tongue tip ,ZIP’-EXERCISE.

13 TOUCH-THE-BUTTON is an exercise which will mediate the feeling and training of the feed-back stimulus (for triggering the involuntary part of the swallow reflex) of the tongue tip touching the incisal papilla.

-Timing – The above listing up is representing the timing in respect of the positioning of the exercises in the therapy course. Concerning the timing within the single exercises see special exercise descriptions.

Characteristics:

Exercise specific.

Remarks:

Exercises for the first third of the tongue should favourably be positioned at the therapy start and in front of further exercises if not some special assessment of findings asks for the aimed training of a certain muscle group.

Discussion:

As an annotation to the term “Tongue tip” it should be said that in expert circles as well the term frontal tongue rim is used – with the argumentation that the frontal tongue region never is formed as a tip respectively not in its physiological position.

As all schematisations the above written down exercise succession, too, harbours significant inconsistencies: A number of not listed up exercises does as well contain components for training the tongue tip; furthermore some of the exercises cited here are not exclusively applicable for the here delineated reason.

Therefore it is advisable to know the contents of all these exercises described and to apply them as one thinks best.

The ZIP-EXERCISE for example specially aims at the function movements of the tongue tip but this within the scope of the swallow reflex. It would therefore sensibly be applied after the work-out of all three tongue thirds has been completed and the training of the swallow reflex is started.

So a chronological arrangement of the above cited descriptions would show the following order in a

List of Exercises for the

 Orientation of the Tongue Tip

(arranged in a sequence of the overall training plan)

>> TONGUE STORY, DRIVING SEAT, PROVE-THE-POINT > POINT EXERCISE > TONGUE-PLOP > FROZEN PLOP > RING LOCKER > LICK > WAG > TONGUE CLICK > STICKY FLAP.

Instructions:

The instructions are exercise specific for the particular exercise.
