MULTIFUNCTIONAL EXERCISES

Myofunktional Exercise  Collect ion

Application:

no illustration

This chapter gives a general description of a collective group of exercises and details which are sharing the here described facts.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL EXERCISES will be prescribed towards the end of the whole therapy. It is aimed at a coordinated and physiological movement of the different muscle groups in the Orofacial System and its bordering regions.

These exercises are implementing several functions at the same time which results in the simultaneous running of different neuromuscular actions during the practicing.

Contents:

MULTIFUNCTIONAL EXERCISES are causing the neuromuscular system to perform different physiological courses of motion under the control of the therapist or the patient himself.

Materials:

Exercise specific.

Procedure:

- Previous exercises: Through the pre-exercises the physiological frame for the correct course of motion of each single function which is composing the MULTIFUNCTIONAL EXERCISE should have been practiced before.

-Starting position: No urgent recommendation; exercise specific. It is recommendable to take up the BASIC-POSITION.

- Step-by-step-description and

-Timing are exercise specific. For the overall timing it may be suggested to position the MULTIFUNCTIONAL EXERCISE in the final phase of the overall training organization.

Characteristics:

Coordination, Habituation, Motivation for monitoring and self-control, Myobalance.

Remarks:

Limited application, see “Discussion”.

Discussion:

MULTIFUNCTIONAL EXERCISES prove complicated, rather for the therapist then for the patient. In their contents they represent a cumulation of different MFT-Exercises what makes them well suitable for coordinating obtained motion courses.

But for the same reason they are at one side plainly physiologic while, on the other hand, they seem improper for a well organised training which has to adjust dysfunctions ultimately. In this respect it is rather difficult from the simultaneous progress of different muscle actions to treat a detail defect and to keep it under observation during the practicing.

If there are several disorders to be treated a focused control of the incorrect motions and the adjusting instruction for the patient will become a problem which may overstress as well the therapist as the patient.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL EXERCISES seem time saving but they hold the danger of the training becoming rather superficial implementing a setback through recurrence.

This is the reason why exercise layouts like this are rather appropriate to be employed additionally and after correcting the deficient detail muscle actions or for the time of post-treatment.

The training composition of MULTIFUNCTIONAL EXERCISES and those in the UNIT-CONSTRUCTION-SYSTEM differ in the functional respect; see notes in the chapter UNIT-CONSTRUCTION-SYSTEM.

Instructions:

Here the instructions of the chosen exercises are relevant.
