POO-EXERCISE

Myofunktional Exercise  Collect ion

Application:

no illustration

This exercise works well in relaxing cramped Mentalis muscles (Anatomy: Area I/10, 11, 12, Page 08ff).

Contents:

As a mnemonic the relaxing effect of a commonly quite easily mastered motion sequence can be demonstrated consciously and monitored by a sensory, or through using the hand-mirror, optical feedback.

Materials:

Not required.

Procedure:

- Previous exercises: The ,M'- or ,L-M'-POSITION should be controlled. As a direct, simple pre-exercise to stretch the soft tissues the exercises GORILLA or CHUBBY LIP are recommendable.

-Starting position: (Initial position to be adopted.)

- Step-by-step-description: ,M'-POSITION

-1 At first the patient will breathe in deeply (through his nose), the lips stay in the (above) starting position.

-2 Now, out of the lungs as “after a vigorous physical effort” a soft gust of air is pushed out of the mouth:”Pooh”! The lower lip gets markedly “blown away”.

-3 Repetition, slowly and deeply breathing in through the nose with lips closed and: “P o o h !”

-Timing: As the practicing phase is quite short it would seem practical to compose one sequence with several rounds. This would lead to a frequency roughly in the respiration rhythm (step by step up the stairs with a heavy burden). So with little effort many rounds may be added, twenty might be recommendable.

Characteristics:

Relaxing, Information, Motivation, sensory Feedback.

Remarks:

During the practicing the patient should by and by learn to consciously experience the loosening of the lower lip region.

Discussion:

As with all MNEMONIC-Exercises also here the effect desired should be evoked apriori rather involuntarily with a simple muscle action; in this case the relaxation of the Mentalis. After some training the sequence of movements will be more and more felt out and carried out under voluntary control leading to a deliberate composure and carry-out. This, then, may lead to a more effective succeeding exercise as, for example, the MENTALIS STRETCH.

More uncomplicated preparative measures can be seen in the Above mentioned exercises GORILLA or CHUBBY LIP. In these exercises apriori actively or passively a tissue stretching is gained which, then, will be extended into a muscle tone relaxation.

The exercise is qualified, similar to the exercise BABBLE for relaxation during the practicing of ORBICULARIS EXERCISES.

In contrary to the ,P-P-P’-EXERCISE the work-out should be practiced without special muscle tone (in the Orbicularis area and especially the chin region).

Instructions:

After a hard work you must have a break. You straighten yourself and say: ”Pooh!”

Your chin always works too hard! This is why it should learn to have a rest.

It can do so – in a quite simple way – also with the “Pooh!”

Just keep your mouth shut, breath in through the nose and then blow out the air “Pooh!” through the mouth again. Breath in and : ”Pooh!” exhale.

This is going to be repeated as often, as we have agreed.

You, of course, should always mind that the chin may really recover and relax well.

No muscle is going to strain!
