WORDEXERCISE 3.TONGUE-THIRD

Myofunktional Exercise  Collection

Application:

The exercise discussed here is employed preferably for the retral tongue region.  It is the follow-up and complementary exercise for the WORDEXERCISES 1. THIRD and 2. THIRD.

Contents:

Tis exercise trains the function-kinetic reflex of the third, posterior tongue third in sound formation by acoustic feedback.

Materials:

Tag containing the exercise sentences:

First third:

TINGLING TRUMPET TONES TOPPLE A TOWER

DOZENS OF DAFFODILS DUMPED IN THE DOWNFALL

LONELY LITTLE LAMBS LIFT LIMB LEGS

Second third:

MITCH WILL CATCH THE WITCH TROUGH THE HATCH.

STITCH A PATCH ON THE CLUTCHBAG.

OUCH! DON’T TOUCH THE POUCH!

Third third:

GOOD GEESE GET GREEN GRAS

DOGGY DIGS IN CRAGGY BOG

KEEP COLOURFUL COTTON KLEEN

Procedure:

- Previous exercises:Generally It will be  recommendable to perform the WORDEXERCISES 1. THIRD and 2. THIRD previously (see above).

-Starting position: Recommendable ,L-M’-POSITION

- Step-by-step-description:

-1 The therapist pronounces each line first and in a well articulated way. The patient should be explicitly admonished to realize the contact of the third tongue third with the palate (rear). The patient will have to, consciously, watch the feeling of this contact when speaking.

-2 The therapist points  a finger or the tip of a spatula to the site of the palate the tongue is going to touch.

-3 Line one. The words are pronounced slowly and clearly; with every training step the next row is added.

-4 Second line.

-5 Third line.

-6 Finally all three lines are practiced in one turn:

-Timing: After starting the training with the exercise parts up to step 5 adding step 6 will form one complete sequence.

Up to ten sequences may be put together for one series. Alternatively the work-out will be executed in the mode of the INCREASE-ARRANGEMENT:

First sequence WORDEXERCISES 1. THIRD

Second sequence WORDEXERCISE  - 2,

Third sequence WORDEXERCISE  - 3,

The work-out may be built up with a continuous changing to form a series of ten. A training increase may be constructed through the setting of the sequences by arranging all three WORDEXERCISES in a random follow-up.

Characteristics:

Feed-back, kinesthetics, functionkinetic reflex.

Remarks:

Only the slow and pronounced articulation will lead to the desired coordination.

Discussion:

See “Discussion” in the chapter WORDEXERCISES  - 1.THIRD respectively - WORDEXERCISE  - 2,

The word exercises should be accompanied by the Myofunctional Exercises for the respective third ( see TONGUE EXERCISE).

Instructions:

The tongue is learning to pronounce the words right, here for its font and middle and the rear part, the 1.,2. and 3. third. Back there the sound ,G’ and ,K’ are being formed. only from there the sound really clear and understandable and you can avoid to spray droplets when speaking.

The following words should be spoken as if reading them clearly to somebody. Watch how all the thirds of the tongue touch the palate:

GRANDMA GETS GOLDEN GLOBE

BRINGING BIG BARGAINS

CLYDE CAN CREATE COTTON KILTS

Or:

GOOD GEESE GET GREEN GRAS

DOGGY DIGS IN CRAGGY BOG

KEEP COLOURFUL COTTON KLEEN

Speak slowly and clearly and feel attentively!

Repeat ten times at least. And for the variety you may pop in those for the first or the second third, then again those from above.
