LITTLE ROLE |
Myofunktional Exercise Collect ion |
Application: |

The exercise is applied to develop mobility and motility of the lateral edge of the tongue with lateral tongue problems as tongue pressing or biting. Furthermore it is suggested with inappropriate physiological oral hygiene concerning the inner interdental spaces (funnel) normally carried out by the tongue edges. (Anatomy: Area II,b, Page 18). |

Contents: |
|
Performance of a special contraction practice of the transversal intrinsic tracks of the Tongue musculature. |
|
Materials: |
|
Hand-mirror, skewer (tooth pick, pencil or the like). |
|
Procedure: |
|
- Previous exercises: Facultative the exercise PODGY TONGUE-SLIM TONGUE. |
|
-Starting position: Facultative the exercise ,L’-POSITION. |
|
- Step-by-step-description: -1 The mouth is opened distinctly, the tongue shows up. -2 By tapping with the vertically held skewer (as in the exercise DIMPLE) the denting reflex is tried to be triggered on the tongue surface while the patient strives to produce the previously described posture, a role or “rainwater gutter”. -3 The position is held while counting, then return to the starting position. |
-Timing: One sequence is formed by holding the role position while counting (in the beginning up to ten, later on increasingly to about thirty). |
Characteristics: |
Kinaesthesia, static, mobility, tone increase, optical feed-back. |
Remarks: |
The ability to form a ‘gutter’ is innate for some people while others will face considerable difficulties in taking up this position. The capability can not really be characterised as ‘physiological’ (essential). |
Discussion: |
This exercise may not commonly be feasible. According to literature apprehension the capability for this muscle action may rather be hereditary. An alternative for strengthening the transversal tracks is given in the above mentioned exercise PODGY TONGUE-SLIM TONGUE which offers the additional advantage to be carried out in the training mode rather as a hold-exercise and more in a kinetic way. As this exercise will be quite demanding foe some people it is well recommended to let the patient do some loosening-up exercises in the breaks between the sequences with carry-outs like BAGGY TONGUE |
Instructions: |
Sometimes the tongue is just too broad consequence of which is that it presses sidewise against the teeth tipping them over or it lies down between the upper and lower ones doing harm to the teeth or the tongue itself. This is why it should learn to become narrower. This is really not as difficult as it possesses the muscles to bring that about – if it is trained for it. And that is what we are going to do now. You sit down in front of a mirror and let the tongue come out a bit. Now the rim on its sides is going to bent up till it looks like a roll mop. It forms a gutter like the rain gutter of a house. In our warm-up we tapped on its surface with a little stick. That did help a bit. And this may be done in your training, too, for the start. It is for the tongue to know what we are demanding from it. When it has formed a little roll you just keep that position and start counting to the agreed-on number. Then you have a break and then the repetitions as often as agreed (or, maybe, more often?) |
