This exercise is not created for children. It is designed for the aged face with its “derailed facial tracks”. Such coordinative breakdown in which some muscle groups slacken while others develop a spastic stiffness are leading to a bunch of secondary impairments. The best known, besides the typical Aged Face, is the formation of rhagades which not only are irksome through the associated chronic skin inflammations but moreover do influence the appearance sustainably. The mechanism of the disorder will reveal the following features: Lips and cheeks are flabby, the Mentalis thrusts the tissues above it upwards, the mouth corners are hanging, saliva emerges at this place and seeps down the developing wrinkles in a steady stream. Mostly in this mechanism a tongue low positioning and protrusion posture of the mandible are involved. The whole action mechanism is not only responsible for the symptoms described but also leads, through the changed loading and resulting malpositioning of the teeth, to periodontal and joint involving or finally prosthetic problems (Anatomy: Area I/1, Page 03) |

A hold exercise to be habituated, presumably for the ‘balloon cover’ or the ‘belt’ (Anatomy: Area I, Page 10) is to create a well balanced face posture. Not required |

- Previous exercises: The exercises ,DRAWER-IN’-EXERCISE , POINTPOSTURE , ,M’-POSITION, ,O’-EXERCISE, ,E'-EXERCISE are schooled before; this order should be kept (exercise descriptions see in the respective chapter). |
|
-Starting position: POINTPOSTURE, ,DRAWER-IN’ and for the lips the ,M’-POSITION. |
|
- Step-by-step-description: -1 ,M’-POSITION. If the patient seems to have mastered it (optimally habituated) he goes on to > -2 ,O’-EXERCISE. This will be executed distinctly but not strained. If it is accomplished satisfactorily the following activity will be to pull the chin down with : -3 ,E'-EXERCISE . |
- Timing: -Timing: All three training positions gained in the three steps will be held continuously! The patient will, by the time, get a pleasant feeling of balance. In the starting time there should be a frequent control with the hand mirror followed by monitoring the further development with MEMOS. |
Characteristics: |
Organ stereognosis, motivation to self control, Orientation, Myobalance, Stand-by Position, Coordination, Static, (Habituation). |
Remarks: |
This exercise should be recommended with the necessary delicacy of feeling to older people. |
Discussion: |
Probably the patient himself has (subtly) noticed the changes mentioned – as far as the visible side is concerned - . Through our explanations symptoms may be elucidated that, per se, are not brought into relation with muscular dystonia. Frequently already after the first joint practicing a positive feedback effect may be noticed being a constructive link to further motivation. |
Instructions: |
If the “facial tracks are in danger of getting derailed” there is nothing better than provision. This will surely cause some trouble and may be tedious at first. After a period of constant training you surely will notice soon that the initial troubles will change into common behaviour and, later on, even cause a comfortable feeling of relaxation – not to mention the huge number of visible and non-visible positive effects being gained. The procedure: First of all the chin must get used to stay back. The tongue blocks up every thing by setting down on its POINT. Now the lips are softly forming an ,M’; and instantly move on to the ,O’ whereby the mouth contracts with faint tension towards the middle. After that the chin sinks down into the ,E’ position. All these three positions ,M-O-I’ are correspondingly held, so to say one upon the other. The correct realization should be observed in a mirror. Later on it may be quite useful to place a note here and there with the inscription “ M-O-I”. Nobody will know what this is to say – a cipher language towards well-adjusted physiognomy! |
