ROLLING HEADS

Myofunktional Exercise  Collection

Application:

This is one of the COLLUM EXERCISES which have the function to set up or support the cervical “fundament” for our efforts in the Orofacial region. In an advanced stage of the COLLUM EXERCISES it will foster the coordination among the other muscle tracks mentioned, it will make contributions to the relaxing of spasms or widen restricted movement borders in the cervical vertebra joints (see Discussion).

Contents:

By this kinetic exercise the collum musculature may be coordinatively mobilized and stretched while, simultaneously, the neck joints of the spine are operated at the border of the mobility frame.

Materials:

The application does not need any material or device.

Procedure:

- Previous exercises: As quoted, the exercise should be applied at a more advanced state of therapy.

If we just leave aside the postural exercises there would, for example, be advisable the in paragraph “discussion” mentioned course of a training plan.

-Starting position: A posture of the POSITION EXERCISES like, at least, the PAUSE-POSITION should be set.

Step-by-step-Description:

-1 In the midway position initially a stretching of the dorsal neck musculature is accomplished as with NAPE-DIALTOR;

the body posture remains completely upright the head is tilted forward in the uppermost vertebral joint then in the next deeper and passing on through the following joints.

-2 Now, out from the median line, follows a “rolling” movement to one side, target point the end state of the NECK SIDE STRETCH, ear towards the shoulder (not shoulder towards ear and “hanging wings”).The passage goes along the rim of the mobility limit in a steady and fluent orbit in slow-motion. The face will constantly remain in one plain, i.e. directed to the front.

-3 Having reached the side position the movement backwards follows instantly till start position and passing it on the way to the opposite side and border position.

-4 as step 3 and continued…

-Timing: After starting movement step 1 and 2 the action takes about 10 seconds representing one sequence length. These are usually put together without pausing to a series of roughly twenty actions. If the static and kinetic modes are to be combined, the action will come to rest with counting out in each end position (as in NECK SIDE STRETCH respectively NAPE-DIALTOR) and followed by resuming the shift.

Characteristics:

Kinetic, Mobility, Stretching, Coordination, (Orientation).

Remarks:

In the presence of joint problems of the nape vertebra cautious training should be carried out in a way of ALTERNATIVE EXERCISE application with EASY NODDING.

Discussion:

As mentioned the here discussed COLLUM EXERCISE may be integrated like with a CONSTRUCTION SET principle into a combination of the string: NAPE-DIALTOR - NECK SIDE STRETCH HEAD-TURN (which are static stretching exercises mainly) – (and the current) ROLLING HEADS.  This order implicates a certain increase of the training performance.

In the flux of motion step 3, step 3, step 3 a noticeable extension of the motion frame will get visible. The frame border, i.e. a subliminal tension pain of the presently stretched muscle tracks should constantly be sensed.

Instructions:

Now we will make the muscles and joints working easily which are turning the head.

The exercise is a combination from the NAPE-DIALTOR and the NECK SIDE STRETCH.

At first we go into the position of the NAPE-DIALTOR.

Now the head slowly rolls with a steady strain slowly to the side, further and further towards the shoulder till having reached the final position of the NECK SIDE STRETCH; face still directed straight forward, the ear as far towards the shoulder as possible. Next back to the forward bent middle, the end position of NECK SIDE STRETCH and finally we roll it to the other side; only forwards never to the back!

The face only tilts always looking to the front, never turns to the side.

This will be repeated five times or as often, as agreed.
