TRUNK-CIRCLING

Myofunktional Exercise  Collection

Application:

to enlarge click picture

This exercise takes a sight on the whole extended Orbicularis region including circular and radially directed fibre tracks and may be put in for a coordinative training (see paragraph ‘Discussion’.)

Contents:

Through the special kinetic pattern of the maximum tension proceeding in a circle around the mouth slit the circular fibres are used chiefly in a static (Slow-Motion) tension, the radial ones procursively one after the other in a fluent change maximally and crude motoric within an intended controllable course which is creating the motivating nature of a GAME-EXERCISE.

Materials:

Not requested, recommendable hand mirror in the beginning for self-control.

Procedure:

- Previous exercises: With this see note in paragraph ‘Discussion’.

-Starting position: TRUNK

- Step-by-step-description:

-1 The TRUNK is shifted to the mouth corner of  one side with maximal power, as each of the following actions

-2 from now on proceeding slowly (Slow-Motion) in a wide round loop next upwards to the nose

-3 down to the opposite corner of the mouth

-4 further down following the circle to the middle of the chin

-5 then up again to the starting point.

For loosening-up a manipulated stretching now is advisable with the exercise  PULL-THE-TRUNK.

-Timing: One sequence is built up out of three actions in a full circle and up to five sequences may be added to form a series.

If the actions are carried out quickly and fluently instead of in Slow-Motion a  MOTILITY-EXERCISE is resulting.

A sort of  CHANGING EXERCISE is formed with the combination of both modi (quick and slow) as well within one sequence as in a change from sequence to sequence.

Characteristics:

(In the primary mode of Slow-Motion)

Crude motor, rather static, mobility, strengthening, Coordination, Motivation.

Remarks:

With a tendency for adductor hyperactivity tooth contact should be avoided, and the ‘chin-in’ of the exercise  ,DRAWER-IN’-EXERCISE seen to.

Discussion:

GAME-EXERCISE is the characterization for exercises which show a game appearance by the way of their carry-out; by this they are especially suitable for our child patients. With the exercise discussed here the patient will observe funny grimaces looking into the mirror or just get in competition with others about who is doing better.

Another typical GAME-EXERCISE is the  TUG-OF-WAR in which two competitors are pulling in a bet. In these cases we will point that out in the exercise description.

With the UNIT-CONSTRUCTION-SYSTEM the following exercises might be arranged in a row with an increasing contents:

(In a precursor training phase first the mouth slit (rima oris) closure was attended.

If necessary, this phase was followed by training the radial fibre tracks followed by that for the circular tracks, see LIP-CLOSURE-EXERCISES.

The below described  TRUNK-EXERCISES do have quite different aims and contents but are constructively training the same target region under the before mentioned principle.

PULL-THE-TRUNK means a manipulated texture stretching for an initial mobilization or an insert for relaxing and loosening.

TRUNK-EXERCISE holds a crude motoric static strengthening for the, predominantly, circular fibre tracks.

TRUNK- CIRCLING means crude coordination in the circular and radial fibre tracks.

As a finishing exercise for this series the fine motor coordination might be trained with  CONDUCTOR.

Instructions:

Here comes the training for the muscles around the mouth. Shall we make it a funny game and work it out together with others watching who will pull a face best or who can dangle with the trunk like an elephant?

For the start let’s make the TRUNK.

This TRUNK, now, is pulled to one corner of the mouth with all your strength. From there it travels in a wide loop up to the nose and on and down to the corner of the mouth on the other side, further down and around passing the chin and looping up to the corner of the mouth we started from.

In this way we do it with utmost force for three rounds each round lasting for about three seconds. Repeat it in a series five times, each three times around, pause, three times around, pause – in total five times.
