This chapter gives a general description of a collective group of exercises and details which are sharing the here described facts.

On our demand to conduct jaw movements our patients commonly will make great efforts to shift the upper jaw, the Maxilla.

The here discussed exercises should serve to mediate the physiological frame of movements (of the Mandibula) to the patients.

Contents:

The contents of the exercises are various.

There are manipulated exercises and function orientated ones, stretching exercises, those for the stand-by position, i.e. more static, and exercises for the mobility frame, i.e. more dynamic ones. As essential those for reducing the tonicity in muscle hyperactivity.

Detailed short information regarding the contents of the exercises is given in the 'List Of Exercises’ drawn up at the end of this chapter.

Materials:

Exercise specific.

Procedure:

- Previous exercises: For pre-exercises will be recommendable Hold-Exercises as SITTING-POSITION,   RESTPOSITION and BASIC-POSITION or at least the  ,L-M’-POSITION to attune the system to a harmonious muscle balance and the patient to sensing the relevant state of his organism.

-Starting position: Us such one of the before mentioned positions are recommendable, especially the RESTPOSITION or at least the ,L-M’ .

- Step-by-step-description:
This, as well, is to be found in the respective chapter.

-Timing: Exercise specific.

Characteristics:

The characteristics are, as described above, most different exercise specific and therefore cited in the below following list in note form.

Remarks:

The exercises presumably show stereognostic components which will be mediated to the patient as well mentally.

Discussion:

See paragraphs ‘Application’ and ‘Contents’.

LIST OF EXERCISES

OPEN AND CLOSE           Strengthening the adductors, static and dynamic
THE  PEA Self sensed joint monitoring with tendency for mandible protrusion.
JOINT STRETCH (MANIPULATED) Application only by the therapist; joint easing and repositioning; orientating instruction.
JOINT-EXERCISES All joint exercises are to be included with the here discussed.
MASTICATORY MUSCLE STRETCH (LATERAL) Manipulated respectively auto-stretch exercise for a restricted mandible laterotrusion.
PEGSQUEEZE Isodynamic straining of the adductors for their tonicity reinforcement
,L-M’-POSITION Stand-by position for the orofacial system, tongue, mandible and lips.
GAPE Extern or self manipulated stretching exercise to increase the mouth opening.
,M’-POSITION Stand-by position for mandible and lips.
MASSETER EXERCISE Static strengthening exercise fort he tendency of a drooping mandible or habitual open mouth posture (mouth breathing),
TIRE OUT CHEWING More a mental exercise for the controlled tiring out of hyperactive Adductors.
