055 exercise |
PALATESLIDE |
Myofunktional Exercise Collection |
Application: |
to enlarge click picture |
The exercise is suitable for the tongue in a habitual deep position with tendency of Proversion for a tone increase in retraction of the levators in all three thirds causing mainly an enlargement of the textural motion frame by crude motor contraction and stretching. (Anatomy: Chiefly extern tongue muscles: I,2,1, Page 18). |

Contents: |
|
Coarse motor strengthening and stretching exercise. |
|
Materials: |
|
Not obligatory. |
|
Procedure: |
|
- Previous exercises: Optional is a pre-programmed training phase for the first third of the tongue (see also: TONGUE-TIP-ORIENTATION [,L'-POSITION , CAT’S HUNCHED BACK, FROZEN PLOP]) |
|
-Starting position: ,L'-POSITION , CAT’S HUNCHED BACK . |
|
- Step-by-step-Description: |
|
-1a The tongue takes up the posture FROZEN PLOP. With the mouth wide open it sucks itself fast against the palate with an effort to stay slender at its sides; -1b In the course of the training the sucking-fast is cancelled. -2a Subsequently the tongue glides down on the slide along the palate backwards and with power as far, as possible up and back. -2b To raise the level of difficulty as the step to follow the molars may be settled upon each other. -2c A further intensification would be the “mouth shut”. |
-Timing: As to place the exercise within the total therapy plan see “Duscussin” One training sequence is built by one slide motion with counting to ten (about 5 sec.) with subsequent repetitions to form a 5er series. |
Characteristics: |
Crude motor, kinetic (slow-motion), monilisation, stretching. |
Remarks: |
See to a continuous contact with the palate while gliding back. |
Discussion: |
This exercise may substitute the HOLD-AND-PULL or be set as sequential application. Then the modus a will have a similar mnemonic function to prepare step b as it is with the FROZEN in the exercise FROZEN PLOP. The actual exercise certainly aims more towards the whole tongue then the front two thirds whereas here the POINTPOSTURE is not relevant. The combination of the actual exercise with HOLD-AND-PULL to form follow-up sequences resulting in a series would result in an ALTERNATIVE EXERCISE By this the alternating hold and stretch effect and the upwards directed retraction effect are utilized which can still be expanded by adding the exercise DRAW-BACK . According to literature citations the exercise may be organized differentiatedly for the first third of the tongue, for the first and second and for the total tongue body. This may be done within the context of an increase of the degree of difficulty (INCREASE-ARRANGEMENT) as well, as a respective single exercise in the connection of the single training of each of the three thirds – similar to the WORDEXERCISES. |
Instructions: |
a. We should give the tongue the chance to get about quite far. For not having to do it on foot she is allowed to use the built-in slide. It runs along all the palate from the POINT at the front right to the uvula at the back. To start this it attaches itself sucking to the palate. Now it slides slowly and with much traction upwards and back as far as far as possible. While gliding you slowly count to ten. At ten it should have arrived backmost. Five repetitions or as many as agreed upon.
b. The tongue gets the chance to get about very far in the mouth. For its convenience it may use the built-in slide. It runs along all the palate from the POINT at the front right to the uvula at the back. It will have to press against the palate with much strength as not to fall down when sliding. Now it slides slowly and with much traction upwards and back as far as far as possible. While gliding you slowly count to ten. At ten it should have arrived backmost. Five repetitions or as many as agreed upon. |
